The Company: The Problems:
It was complicated to deal with 4 pieces of software. None of the systems "talked" to EDI, therefore there was a great amount of duplication and manual efforts to integrate their EDI processing into their business systems. Their goal was to seamlessly integrate their EDI transactions into all the necessary business systems. Issue 2) In 19xx Cappelli learned that for their trading partner, JC Penney (JCP), Cappelli had to comply with a unique set of documents use by very few trading partners - the 753 and 754 dynamic routing instructions. Compliance was yet more complicated by another requirement - Cappelli needed to send JCP a shipping notification 48 hours prior to shipping and wait for a return confirmation that could likely require rerouting and even changes to carton and pallet labels. This would be a challenge to automate. The Solution: Issues 1) Cappelli asked 123 EDI if there was a way to seamlessly integrate their EDI transactions into all the necessary business systems. 123 EDI created a design and plan and Cappelli approved the design and the project. The first step was to eliminate the translator and the ASN Complete software helping Cappelli to immediately achieve a more efficient operation. EDI Engine™ handled all EDI processing and became the central repository for all EDI transaction data. Within 2 months interfaces were written, tested and put into production. First, 123 EDI wrote an interface to the critical system - accounting. Because 123 EDI's methodology parses all EDI transaction data and produces "normalized" data this data is then available to any and all systems. This data has allowed Cappelli to go beyond basic EDI. Now, EDI Engine was able to check for and invoke specific business rules which, for example, expedited creation of their shipping and the routing instructions with accuracy. Then, 3 years ago Cappelli upgraded to a more sophisticated business specific ERP system - Apprise. Prior to Apprise being put into production, 123 EDI quickly developed a new interface and certified all EDI processes and the data quality flowing between EDI and Apprise. Again, all necessary business systems were integrated. Issue 2) For the JC Penney project Hugo immediately called 123 EDI and very soon afterwards reviewed the proposed solution which ended up being implemented. Again Cappelli's solution was expedited because of the normalized data available from EDI Engine™. In less than 2 months the interface was written, tested directly with JCP and put into production. This very complicated and time dependent shipping process was made EDI compliant and efficient. The Results: |
